Coreanos landed in Allston in the summer of 2016 with a premise that sounds simple until you taste the logic behind it: Korean food and Mexican form aren't as far apart as the menu boards of most American cities would have you believe. Owners Jina, Yongsik, and Alex Kim built this KoMex concept around that conviction, and the neighborhood — scrappy, student-dense, perpetually hungry after midnight — turned out to be exactly the right room for it. The space itself is tiny, barely a dozen seats, which means the real business here is takeout and the real test is whether the food travels. By all accounts, it does. The menu's anchor points are three dishes that have defined what Coreanos means to regulars since nearly the beginning. Kimchi Fritas are the most-discussed: French fries loaded with kimchi, melted cheese, scallions, and a fried egg, with your choice of protein — bulgogi, spicy pork, kalbi short rib, chicken, or fried tofu — folded into the pile. It is the kind of dish that sounds chaotic and lands as inevitable.
