Rocco DiSpirito, the James Beard Award-winning chef who built his reputation at Union Pacific (once among the most talked-about tables in the city, earning three New York Times stars), has planted himself on the second floor of the Kimpton Era Midtown with a room designed to feel like an occasion: scarlet ceramic bar anchoring the space, red and brown leather banquettes running below floor-to-ceiling windows with a direct sightline to Rockefeller Center. The address is unapologetically Midtown, which means tourists, yes — but also the kind of pre-theater and post-deal crowd that keeps a room at a certain pitch. The windows do real work here. This is a place built for people who want dinner to look like dinner.
