Researched recommendation

Heartbreakers Pizza on Parkdale Ave in Hintonburg is doing something Ottawa's pizza scene has been quietly short on: New York-style pies made with genuine conviction by a family operation that seems to care about what goes in the dough as much as what goes on top. The room is intentionally small — limited seating in a tight Hintonburg space — and that's apparently the point. A rotating natural wine list and an in-house bottle shop signal who this place is actually for: people who think about what they're drinking as seriously as what they're eating, but would rather spend thirty bucks on a pizza and a good glass than ninety on something fussier across town. The crust is where Heartbreakers has built its reputation. The kitchen uses organic stone-milled flour, and diners consistently point to a chew and char that most Ottawa pizzerias reportedly aren't producing. The Sweetheart — aged mozzarella with ricotta, chili heat, and honey — is the one the menu seems to be benchmarked against, known for balancing richness and sweetness without going one-note. The Fun Guy, built around roasted mushrooms and arugula, is the understated option that reportedly ends up the subject of table arguments over the last slice. Fennel & Sausage does what that pairing is supposed to do: the fennel works against the fat, keeping things from getting heavy. Round either out with the Chicken Wings or the Kale Salad and you're looking at a complete evening rather than just a pizza run. Practical intel: the room fills fast and walk-ins on a weekend are a genuine gamble. Book ahead. If you're pulling a bottle from the shop, the natural skin-contact whites are reportedly the move alongside the Sweetheart. The play is two or three people, three pies, and let the table sort it out.
