La Zone 23, tucked into Sandy Hill on Mann Ave, is a halal spot that leans into street-food logic instead of fusion pretension — the kind of place that exists because someone missed two cuisines at once and decided to fix it. The move here is the French Tacos Mixed, that griddled, folded, wrapped-and-crisped thing that has nothing to do with Tuesday-night tacos and everything to do with satisfying a specific 11 p.m. hunger. Then there's the Crousty Sweet: rice, crispy chicken, a secret white sauce, Thai chili, crispy onions, spring onion piled into one bowl that reads like every good late-night craving negotiated a truce. It's casual, unfussy, built for dine-in, takeout, or delivery when leaving the couch feels ambitious. This is student-neighborhood eating done with more imagination than the shawarma-and-poutine circuit usually manages — bold, a little chaotic, and exactly the sort of oddball I want to root for.
