When the Ambassador of Thailand to Canada showed up to cut the ribbon at Savor Thai's September 2023 opening, it wasn't ceremony for ceremony's sake — it was a signal about what Chef Art Prasopchok Trakulphat was building on Corso Italia. This is not a pad-thai-and-spring-rolls operation hedging its bets on familiarity. Chef Art, a Thai Iron Chef, is working inside a converted bank that runs 4,000 square feet across two floors, where art deco archways and mosaic floors coexist with hundreds of imported golden bells hanging from the ceiling and a golden temple host stand. Toronto Life's Best Restaurants of 2024 and Canada's 100 Best Restaurants both took notice, and neither list rewards novelty for its own sake.
