What the restaurant has built — at a price level that should make comparable spots nervous — is a room committed to Mexican coastal cooking in a way that diners consistently describe as loud, generous, and deliberately over-the-top in the best sense. For a price-level-one operation in Chicago, the ambition is conspicuous. This is not a place coasting on cheap margaritas and frozen salsa; the menu is doing real work. The Cubetazo is the table anchor — a shared bucket cocktail that reportedly sets the whole tone before the food arrives, signaling that drinking and eating here are understood as the same conversation. The Trio Ceviche is where the kitchen shows range: three preparations built around different acid profiles and heat levels, giving the table something to argue about in a good way. The 7 Seas Soup has developed a reputation as the kind of seafood broth with genuine depth that people come back for specifically — the sort of dish that earns quiet loyalty.
