Researched recommendation

Miso Taco on Cambie is doing something most fusion concepts only gesture at. Where other kitchens slap a kimchi garnish on a quesadilla and call it boundary-pushing, this spot has built what looks like a genuinely coherent worldview — one where Mexican and Japanese flavours aren't colliding, they're completing each other. The Cambie Village room leans into this with full commitment: anime references on the walls, arcade games humming in the corner, a vibe that reads like the inside of a very particular kind of cool brain rather than a mood board assembled by committee. At price level one, this is the kind of accessible, joyful dining that Vancouver's taco scene needs more of, and the Cambie location — open since September 2024 at 3456 Cambie — is reportedly more spacious than the original Chinatown outpost, which improves your odds of actually getting a table. The menu centers on a tight roster of Japanese-Mexican hybrids that diners consistently point to as the reason they return. The Chicken Karaage Tacos are known for pairing crispy karaage with house tartar sauce and a hit of tonkatsu, a combination that apparently earns its reputation by balancing fat and acid rather than simply layering them. The Chashu Style Carnitas Tacos take slow-cooked chashu pork in a carnitas direction, reportedly brightened by pineapple relish and spicy mayo, with chopped onion and cilantro keeping it anchored to its Mexican side. The Tuna Tataki Tacos round out the fish options with what the menu frames as a Japanese raw-fish sensibility in taco form. And the Kimchi Nachos function as the table snack diners describe ordering once and immediately regretting not doubling. The practical move here is a group of three or four, an order that sweeps the taco menu, and the Kimchi Nachos landing first. Come for dinner rather than a rushed lunch — the room is built for the kind of sprawling, share-everything meal this menu is clearly designed around.
